Much has been said about this Maquette since his first appearances alongside Mark Ruffalo, even before the famous, first "Avengers" movie was released. And, as often happens, many collectors passed from an unconditional apotheosis ("the best Hulk ever seen!") to much less gratifying judgments, even dictated by the first, bad photos appeared on Web. Maybe someone tends to compare instinctively this piece with the many beautiful statues devoted to the character and available on market, but one should always keep in mind this is a Maquette (based on movie) so that its features should not depict the more traditional features of the loved Green Goliath as everybody knows from Comics! And, as a Maquette, in my humble opinion, this representation of Hulk is simply awesome. Produced by Legacy Effect, the statue was released in 2013 in a Limited (not numbered) Edition; it weighs more than 8 Kg and has a size of 44 x 46 cm, with a heigth of about 65 cm. The pose is very appropriate to highlight the powerful and massive physique of the character, with just barely bent legs, open arms and a slightly rotated head. The sculpt is beautiful and offer both a great visual impact and an undisputable resemblance to the actor Mark Ruffalo, which is a fundamental feature for all fans collecting movie statues. Note the natural and extremely realistic swelling of biceps and the numerous veins on them, the huge forearms and the well defined contours of ankles and feet, the perfect proportion of the rib cage, with a very realistic definition (with no excess) of abdomen and pectorals and also the twisting on back of the monstrous dorsal. The half-open hands give a sort of dynamism to figure, while the large feet are well planted on the ground and are masterly sculpted, even showing the skeletal shape of the fingers. Also the base is well done: it shows a deformed tarmac with a twisted metallic beam and a large corrugate, full of torn electrical cables. In spite of many criticisms, I like the face. In particular, I appreciate the shape of the forehead, protruding on eyes and nose, the well realized depth of eye cavities, the wrinkles on the sides of eyes and mouth and the bulging lower lip which points out the fine teeth. Also the unsmooth hair is carved carefully, enriched by irregular tufts on the forehead and folds everywhere. Also note the folds at the base of the neck (at left) and the veins and tension of muscles (at right), just to emphasize the rotation of the head. The green tone used for the body is rather soft, quite different from the bright and darker colors usually adopted to depict the Comics' character; nevertheless, I believe this was a right choice, since this is exactly the green appearing in the movie and, in any case, the painting is realized very well, with light nuances scattered everywhere on arms, chest, back, legs and face. In my opinion, the only true weak point of this piece is the lack of a well defined run, a feature which somehow reduces its own relevance as a collectible. In conclusion, this is a beautiful statue, faithful to the traits of the Hulk appearing at cinema, equipped with a great visual impact and a good aesthetics.
